Police launches searches for cop

Srinagar, May 20: Police today said it has launched searches to trace out a missing constable, who was posted in Srinagar district.
A police spokesman said the constable namely Sameer Ji Kumar (belt no 862/S), working with police, had gone missing from his duties on May 14.
“Accordingly, a missing report was lodged in police station Sherghari. During the course of investigation, it has been revealed that the missing constable had absented from his duties and went to Kupwara along with a colleague and his uncle Head Constable Daleep Kumar,” he said.
After dropping his uncle at DPL Kupwara, the police constable reached Yunsu bridge under the jurisdiction of Police Post Chogal, Handwara and  jumped into  Puhroo river reportedly under the influence of liquor, the spokesman said.
“Police have started looking for the missing constable. Every effort is being made to trace him. Marine commandos of the Navy are also being pressed into the service along with the river police. Further investigation is going on and all angles are being looked into,” he added.
