JAMMU, Dec 25: An officer of J&K police was killed while a Special Police Officer (SPO) received serious injuries in a road accident in Purkhoo area of city outskirts.
“The deceased has been identified as ASI Bachan Singh and SPO Jaswinder Singh, both posted at police station Kanachak,” Inspector Ravi Parihar, SHO Kanachak said, adding both had gone for investigation of a road accident held at Purkhoo and when they were on the way back to the police station at a bike, a speeding truck bearing registration number PB13AR-3635 hit their bike near SBI Bank at Jammu-Akhnoor Road.
He said that both the cops received serious injuries in the mishap and were immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where ASI Bachan Singh was declared as brought dead by the doctors while the condition of the SPO was stated to be critical.
“The body of the deceased officer was sent for postmortem while a case in this connection was registered under relevant Sections at police station Kanachak,” the SHO said, adding, the truck involved in the mishap was seized and its driver namely Kulvinder Singh son of Joginder Singh of Punjab was arrested.
