Police pays tribute to constable who attains martyrdom in Srinagar militant attack

SRINAGAR : Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday paid rich tribute to a Selection Grande Constable, who attains martyrdom in a militant attack in the summer capital, Srinagar.

The policeman, a Personal Security Officer (PSO) of a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader, was killed by suspected militants at Natipora in Srinagar on Monday morning.

A police official said that Selection Grade Constable Manzoor Ahmad, who lost his life during an attack by militants on the residence of a PDP leader, was on Monday paid a befitting tribute by police in a solemn ceremony at District Police Line (DPL) Srinagar.

“Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and other police officers laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the martyr for the supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty,” he said.

Official sources said that suspected militants fired at the guard post outside the residence of PDP leader Haji Parvaiz Ahmad at Natipora in uptown Srinagar on Monday morning. “Selection grade Constable Manzoor Ahmad was injured in the attack,” they said, adding the wounded were immediately taken to SHMS hospital where he succumbed.
