Srinagar, Nov 14: A Police Post was damaged in a fire incident at congested Fateh Kadal area of Old City here this afternoon.
A police official told Excelsior that fire broke out in Police Post Bana Mohalla at Fateh Kadal here and engulfed the whole building. He said the blaze was brought under control with the help of fire tenders and police personal.
The Police Post is housed in three storey old house adjacent to a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp and a temple near Fateh Kadal bridge. The police official said a pistol, few magazines and bedding of cops was gutted in the fire incident. “Heavy weaponry was saved from getting destroyed,” he said.
He said the top police brass has taken cognizance of the incident and a probe has been started in this regard. “Top cops have taken serious note of the incident and an investigation is underway,” he said, adding that so far the exact cause of the fire is not known.
“We are investigating whether it was as a result of short circuit, gas leak or someone deliberately put it on fire,” he said.
