Multiple raids across Kashmir against banned party leaders

SRINAGAR, Mar 26: Police today raided multiple locations in Kashmir including the houses of separatist leaders Abdul Gani Bhat and Shabir Ahmad Shah, as part of ongoing investigations into cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
A police spokesperson said the cases pertain to investigations of banned organisations, including the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group) and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (Shabir Shah Group).

“The searches were carried out in connection with suspected members of these proscribed organisations in FIR No. 15/2024 under Sections 10, 13 of the UAPA and Sections 121, 121A of the IPC at Rajbagh Police Station in Srinagar; FIR No. 04/2024 under Sections 10, 13 of the UAPA at Sadar Police Station; and FIR No. 03/2024 under Sections 10, 13 of the UAPA at Shaheed Gunj Police Station,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesman said that the investigation aims to dismantle the remnants of the secessionist and terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir by identifying and taking legal action against individuals engaged in such activities.
The raids were conducted at the residences of separatist leader Professor Abdul Gani Bhat, located in Bhat Mohalla, Botingoo, Sopore, and simultaneously at his Srinagar residence in Wazir Bagh, Rajbagh.
A search was also carried out at the residence of Shabir Ahmad Shah in connection with FIR No. 04/2024.
In connection with FIR No. 03/2024, searches were conducted at seven locations across Srinagar, targeting individuals suspected of involvement in unlawful activities. Houses of separatists Masrat Alam Bhat, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat (alias Gugga), Ghulam Nabi Wagay, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Nazir Khan, Hakeem Abdul Rashid, and Javaid Ahmad Munshi (alias Bilpapa) were also searched.
The searches were conducted after obtaining search warrants from the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar. In accordance with legal procedures, all searches were carried out in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses, the spokesman added.
“Srinagar Police remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the city. Any individual found furthering the agenda of violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences under the law,” the spokesman said.
Police in Shopian conducted raids in the district, targeting individuals associated with banned separatist organization, Democratic Freedom Party (DFP). This search was part of ongoing investigation into Case FIR No 03/2024 registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at P/S Zainapora.
The search aimed to dismantle anti-national and separatist networks by identifying and taking legal action against individuals involved in such activities.
“The DFP, led by Shabir Ahmad Shah, has been under scrutiny for its involvement in separatist activities”.
The search was carried out at the residence of Mohammad Abdullah Bhat alias Tari son of Mohamad Hamid Bhat of Alyalpora Shopian.
The search operation was conducted after obtaining a search warrant from the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian. Following due legal procedure, the search was conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrate and local village representatives, including the Lumberdar and Chowkidar.
“Shopian Police have reiterated their commitment to continuing legal proceedings against the individuals who are supporting or engaging in unlawful activities, emphasizing that such actions are crucial for maintaining peace and security in the region.”
Police in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district raided house of one Fayaz Ahmed Dass son of Habibullah Dass of Waghama Bijbehara affiliated with Huriyat (G) group.
They also raided the house of Ghulam Nabi Sumbji (Hurriyat leader) son of Ramzan at Dewan Bagh Bijbehara today.
