Police recover Rs 17 lakh from financial frauds in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR, Dec 31: Police announced today that they have recovered Rs 17 lakh from financial frauds and smartphones worth Rs 16 lakh in just nine months in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, center.
A police spokesperson said that since March this year, the Cyber Cell in Ganderbal has recovered 87 stolen or lost mobile phones, worth Rs 16 lakh. “Seventy-four of these phones have already been returned to their owners. Today, the remaining 13 phones were handed back,” the spokesperson added.
The Cyber Cell has also made progress in handling financial fraud. “Rs 17 lakh in fraudulent transactions have been traced, and Rs 3,78,527 has been returned to the victims,” the spokesperson said.
Additionally, he said, over 56 cases of blackmail and social media hacking have been resolved, helping victims of these cybercrimes. “The police also launched a 24/7 cyber helpline at 9541786772 to assist the public with cyber-related issues,” he said.
