Police refuses to register complaint in chain snatching incident

JAMMU, Apr 6: Following a  chain snatching incident  in Kali Jani  area of  Moti Bazar, Police allegedly refused to register complaint in this regard even as one of the two  accused was handed by locals to the Police Post Parade.
The incident took place this evening around 9.30 pm. when two youth snatched chain from a woman  namely  Kailash Sharma, wife of Sat Pal, resident of H No 250 Kali Jani,  who was talking on mobile phone on entrance of her house. As the woman raised an alarm over chain snatching, her son and other neighbours chased the  accused and succeeded to catch one of them, who was thrashed  by the people. People also recovered the chain from his possession and took him to Police Post  Parade  for registration of a case in this regard.
However, Police allegedly discouraged the woman and her son from filing a complaint in this regard on the pretext of legal wrangling.
When contacted, Incharge PP Parade,  SI Deepak Katoch claimed that the victim did not want to file complaint in the incident as  the chain was recovered. However, he admitted  that one of the two accused, identified as Vinod Kumar of Punjab, presently putting up near Dogra Hall Jammu,  has been handed over to Police.
