JAMMU, Apr 27: As part of pro-active policing to bring about socio-economic transformation in the lives of people, particularly belonging to poor families, the Jammu Police under its Civic Action Programme (CAP) today distributed 43 Rehris among the persons of Sansi community putting up in R S Pura Subdivision, at a function held at Bishnah, to enable them to earn their livelihood honourably. Most of these persons were generally involved in the distillation and sale of illicit liquor.
Under the guidance of senior Police officers, Shailender Singh, SP, Headquarter, Jammu, along with his Police team, persuaded these persons not to resort to the distillation of illicit liquor or any other such illegal activities and earn their livelihood through lawful means.
Shailender also persuaded to put their children in schools so that they receive education and become productive members of the society. Not only this, he adopted three children of the Sansi community for facilitating their education. Consequently, one of the boys of the Sansi community among them is pursuing his graduation at Government Degree College, Bishnah, and a girl is studying in the 11th class at Miran Sahib. With the efforts and support of the Police, another boy of the same community has been admitted to a convent school at Bishnah.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP, Jammu, Rajeshwar Singh, dwelt on the initiatives being taken by the Police under the Civic Action Programme. He added that the Police is running a De-addiction and Mental Counseling Centres both at Srinagar and Jammu. He said that the public at large and the Police have to make joint efforts for a more peaceful and harmonious society.
A large number of Sarpanchs, Panchs, representatives from trade and commerce, social activists, prominent citizens and people besides Dewakar Singh SDPO, RS Pura and all SHOs of Sub Division RS Pura were present on this occasion.
