SAMBA, Dec 6: The increasing encroachments’ made by shopkeepers on roads and footpaths in Samba town has created a public nuisance which often resulted in traffic jams and obstructions to pedestrians in their free movement.
Taking cognizance of the same, SHO Samba, Chanchal Singh along with his team launched a drive against the encroachments made by shopkeepers on the footpaths. The drive started from Border Road, Samba and the goods which were displayed on the footpath by the shopkeepers were seized. SHO Samba warned the shopkeepers that the goods kept in the shop should not be displayed on the footpaths so the pedestrians do not face any problem. If the shopkeepers again displayed their goods on footpaths the legal action will be taken against them, he added.
After launching the drive on border road, the team started the drive on Link road Samba where some people from outside the state were selling the woolen items and had put their Reharis on the road. Due to this, both sides of the link road were blocked. This resulted in huge traffic jam on this road.
The SHO Samba and his team also dismantled the stairs which were constructed by shopkeepers by encroaching upon the road. He warned them against encroaching upon the footpaths. He said if the shopkeeper or anyone wanted to display their goods then they should put them inside the white line and not on the road.
