Police rescue 21 bovines, arrest 2 smugglers

UDHAMPUR, May 7: Continuing drive against the smuggling of bovine animals, Udhampur Police today rescued 21 bovines and arrested two persons in this connection.
Reports said that acting on the direction of Incharge SSP Benam Tosh,  a police party from Police Post Tikri laid a naka and seized a vehicle loaded with bovine animals. Police rescued the bovines, which were being smuggled to Kashmir and arrested the accused identified as Abdul Majid of Dura Sedhera Jammu. The vehicle bearing registration number JK02AJ06305, being used for smuggling the bovines, was also seized by police.
In another success, Udhampur Police rescued six bovine animals, which were being taken to Kashmir valley on foot.  Police also arrested one of the smugglers, identified as Altaf Hussain of Bian Bagh while his other associate managed to escape leaving behind his bike, which was seized by the cops.
Meanwhile, Police arrested  five gamblers and recovered bet money of Rs 15000 from their possession.
Acting on specific information, a police party led by SHO Udhampur Deepak Jasrotia conducted raid at Shiv Nagar near ARTO Office Udhampur and arrested  Tarun Gupta, Gurmeet Singh, Vinay, Vivek and Rakesh who were gambling at public place. Bet money of Rs 15000 was recovered from the accused against whom a case  under 13/Gambling Act has been registered at Udhampur Police Station.
