Police rescue six children from captivity, woman arrested

KATRA, Sept 21: In a major success, Katra Police today rescued six children, who were being forced into begging in the holy town and on the track to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
The main accused, arrested in this connection, is a woman, who was running this racket and had been keeping these children in her illegal confinement for begging purpose.  She has been identified as Rano Devi, wife of late Maan Singh of Purana Daroor, Katra.
She was arrested on a written complaint to Police Post Banganga by   one  Makhnu, son of Mansa Ram of  Purana Daroor,  Katra, who alleged that the accused woman and her son  Mintu  alongwith other associates, were  indulged into kidnapping minor children and then forcing them into begging so that they could generate money for their wrongful gains.
On the contents of the complaint, a case FIR number 154/2015 U/S 24/25 J.J. (C&P) Act, 363-A/342/323/109 RPC was registered at Police Station Katra. A Police team, led by PSI Gurvider Singh, Incharge Police Post Banganga, under the supervision SHO Katra Kuldeep Krishan, SDPO Katra Dr Ashok Sharma, Addl SP Sumir Kotwal and accompanied by Tehsildar Katra Roshan Lal, conducted a raid in the house of accused and rescued six children from her possession. The accused Rano Devi was arrested but her son Mintu fled away from the spot.
Search of the accused and further investigation of the case was going on.
According to Police, the accused has claimed that the rescued children were handed over to her by their parents for begging purpose.
