Police rescues 44 bovines, arrests 2 smugglers, seizes 2 vehicles

KATHUA, Dec 16: Kathua police under the overall supervision of its SSP Shobhit Saksena, rescued 44 bovines in two separate incidents at Basantpur and Lakhanpur area respectively , arrested two bovine smugglers and seized two vehicles involved in bovine smuggling.
Police said in the first instance, on Sunday a team of Police Station (PS), Lakhanpur led by SHO Lakhanpur under the supervision of DySP, DAR Kathua during naka/ checking at Lakhanpur area noticed the movement of one suspicious vehicle (Truck) bearing Registration Number PB13AW-1131 which was being driven by a person namely Vakil Singh, son of Darshan Singh of H.No. 185 Gaswa Fatehabaad, Haryana who was enrouted from Punjab towards Srinagar.
Police said the driver was signalled to stop for checking. During checking of the vehicle, 27 bovines were found loaded in the vehicle mercilessly which were rescued, One person was arrested and one truck was seized on spot. Thereafter all the 27 bovines ( 20 Cows and seven Oxen) were rescued and also the vehicle was seized. An instant case has been registered at PS Lakhanpur vide FIR No. 139/2024 U/S 223/BNS, 11/PCA act while further investigation into this matter has been set into motion.
While in the second instance, on Sunday another police team of PS Lakhanpur during naka/ checking at Basantpur area noticed the movement of one more suspicious vehicle (Truck) bearing Registration No. JK21D-3786 which was being driven by a person namely Sohan Singh, son of Netar Singh of Makhanpur Simbal Camp teshil R S Pura district Jammu who was enrouted from Punjab side towards Srinagar was signalled to stop for checking. During checking of the vehicle, 17 bovines were found loaded in the vehicle mercilessly which were rescued, one person was arrested and one truck was seized on spot.
All the 17 bovines ( 07 Cows & 10 Oxen) were rescued and also seized the vehicle involved. An instant case has been registered at P/S Lakhanpur vide FIR No. 138/2024 U/S 223/BNS, 11/PCA act while further investigation into this matter has been set into motion.
Thus overall 44 bovines( 27 cows & 17 oxen) were rescued and two persons were arrested and two vehicles were seized.
