JAMMU, Oct 11: To scuttle BJP’s Rajouri march police today detained over 100 party activists including senior party leaders at different places on their way to hilly district.
The party State president, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Legislative Party leader, Ashok Khajuria, MLAs Choudhary Sukhnandan and Ch Shyam and its senior vice president Chander Parkash Ganga were among over 100 party activists who were detained at different places while on their way to Rajouri.
A high drama prevailed in front of State BJP office early in the morning when police erected barricades to defeat the BJP leaders and activists move to take out a march to Rajouri. The agitating BJP activists also jostled with the police in their bid to take out the march. The scuffle continued for some time.
To disperse the irate BJP activists the police also resorted to mild cane charge at Kachi Chawni Chowk.
However, some senior party leaders managed to give police a slip and reach Sunderbani, Akhnoor, Domana and Paloura. But they were detained by the police and stopped from going ahead.
To scuttle the move heavy deployment of police was made in front of BJP Office at Kachi Chawni here from early in the morning and Police blocked the main exit point of the party as soon as the BJP leaders and activist including Jugal Kishore Sharma, Ashok Khajuria, MLAs Sukhnandan, Shyam Choudhry, Party National Executive Member and chief spokesperson of the State, Dr Jitendra Singh, Chander Parkash Ganga, general secretaries, Kavinder Gupta and Bali Bhagat, Munish Sharma, Sat Sharma (CA), Yudhvir Sethi, Sanjeev Sharma and several other party functionaries tried to come out of party headquarters to leave for Rajouri.
However, some of the senior leaders managed to give police a slip in the melee to proceed ahead. But they were later detained also. While Jugal Kishore Sharma was detained at Sunderbani, along with Ch. Shyam MLA, Ch. Gulam Ali Khatana, Ashok Khajuria and Ch Sukhnandan were detained at Damana along with Omi Khajuria, Karan Singh and Mukesh Sharma. Khajuria alleged that police damaged his vehicle also.
C P Ganga, Ch Shyam and others were detained near Paloura by police.
Sat Sharma (CA), Chaman Lal Kanathia, Sanjeev Sharma, Suraj Singh and several others were detained at Akhnoor. However all of them were later released.
Earlier addressing BJP activists at party headquarters, Jugal Kishore Sharma said that his party will not tolerate highhandedness of the Government. He accused the Government of its total failure in freeing the land belonging to Ram Leela Committee at Rajouri and registering false cases against its members.
Ashok Khajuria said that with its move the Government wanted to give message to the majority community that J&K is a Muslim majority State and it also indicated that State administration is bent upon to spread animosity between various communities.
