JAMMU, July 11: Police today conducted searches at the residence of Tarun Behl, a local newspaper owner, who was earlier arrested and booked under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) for allegedly circulating secret information in WhatsApp groups. During the search, several electronic gadgets and documents were seized.
The searches took place at Behl’s residence in Channi Himmat, Jammu, and at a school in the Chowadhi area, as part of the investigation into a case registered under the Official Secrets Act of 1923 and section 49/353 of the BNSS at Police Station Channi Himmat, according to a police official.
The police official stated that Behl was arrested for extracting sensitive information and sharing it, which is considered highly detrimental to state security. He added that Behl’s actions were intended to spread disaffection within the government for private interests.
The police also alleged that Behl’s activities incited individuals to commit offences against various classes and sections of society.
He said the search warrants were obtained from the court, and the searches were conducted at Behl’s residence and the International British School in Chowadhi in the presence of duty magistrates and independent witnesses, following due legal process.
Tarun Behl is currently on a four-day police remand.
