JAMMU, Nov 8: Keeping a check over use of cash and other illegal materials during the forthcoming Assembly elections, police today seized around Rs 10 lakh cash and a cheque of Rs 59,000 from two cars at Thalka Morh area, falling under the jurisdiction of Nowshera police station.
As per police sources, police team from Nowshera police station led by SHO Kuldeep Raj under the supervision of AdSP Nowshera Rakesh Kumar and SSP Rajouri Dr Hasseb Mughal intercepted two cars bearing registration numbers JK02AH-9063 and JK14-5847, during checking at Thalka Naka. During search police recovered around Rs 9.54 lakh cash and a cheque of Rs 59,000.
The cash and cheque was being carried by Deepak Gupta, son of Ashok Gupta of Talab Tillo, Pawan Gupta, son of Amar Nath of Rehari and Sanjeev Kumar, son of Dev Raj Sharma of Sunjwan.
As the occupants of the cars failed to give satisfactory reply, police seized the cash and cheque and handed over the same to Election Flying Squad, Nowshera for ascertaining the details.
However, when contacted, ARO Rajouri, termed the cash genuine.
