Police seize illegal mining machinery, vehicles in Rajouri

RAJOURI, Jan 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Police in Rajouri district seized several vehicles and machinery involved in illegal mining.
A JCB excavator (Model 215) was confiscated and the offenders were fined Rs 1,32,600 a police official said.
In addition to the excavator, he said, three vehicles, including a tractor driven by one Asif Aijaz, and two other vehicles driven by Tariq Hussain and Harman Sharma were also seized.
“The vehicles are now in the custody of the police and further legal proceedings are underway,” he said.
SSP Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwar, reiterated the police department’s commitment to protecting the district’s natural resources, stating, “Illegal mining poses a serious threat to our environment and depletes valuable natural resources.”
“Jammu and Kashmir Police follows a zero-tolerance policy towards such activities and will continue to take strict action against offenders. We urge citizens to actively support us by reporting illegal mining to help safeguard our environment.”
