SAMBA, Nov 10: Continuing its drive against the menace of drugs, District Police Samba under the overall supervision of SSP Samba, Dr. Abhishek Mahajan, has arrested a narcotic smuggler and recovered about 100 Kgs of Poppy Straw from his possession in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Vijaypur.
Acting on an information received from reliable sources, a special vehicle checking naka was established by Additional SP Samba, Surinder Choudhary and police team of PS Vijaypur headed by SDPO Vijaypur, Priyanka Kumari and SHO Vijaypur Inspector, Tribhuvan Khajuria at Ring Road near Zamindara Dhaba, Raya Morh, Vijaypur today. During the checking it intercepted a Mohindra Bolero load carrier having Registration Number JK11C-0597.
During checking of the vehicle, police recovered approximately 100 kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) which was concealed in a fabricated cavity inside the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle identified as Shahwaz, son of Abdul Hussain of Khawas, Budhal Rajouri has been arrested. However, his associate namely Rakesh Kumar son of Girdhari Lal of Bishnah, Jammu managed to escape from the spot.
The contraband item along with vehicle was seized on the spot.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 175/2022 under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered at PS Vijaypur and further investigation started.
