Police solves murder projected as suicide

Baramulla, July 7: Police today said that it has solved a murder case which was labelled as a suicide after a thorough investigation carried out by it’s Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Police Station Uri had received information that a woman Shahida Begum of Uri was found hanging in her room apparently after committing suicide. “Accordingly inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC were initiated in Police Station Uri,” police said.
“While investigating the facts and circumstances of the case, the officers learnt of a foul play which had been staged to create an impression of a suicide,” police said.
It said that it was followed with the constitution of an SIT comprising of SHO Police Station Uri and 2 other officers to investigate the circumstances leading to the death of a woman.
“Officers while investigating the case spoke to several individuals and one suspect namely Qadeer Ahmad Khatana son of Ab Majeed resident of Julla Kalgi Uri-brother-in-law and cousin of the deceased woman was also questioned. During sustained questioning, the officers learnt that the individual was involved in the murder of this woman and she had not actually committed suicide as was initially reported to police,” police said while giving the details of the incident.
Police said that the woman had returned from her maternal home after staying there for about more than one month. “The husband of the deceased is presently working outside J&K from past six months,” police said.
On the fateful night accused had exchanged heated arguments with the woman leading to a verbal altercation between the two. The accused person grabbed the woman and tied a scarf around her neck and gradually pulled it leading to her death on spot. He then hanged the dead body in her room to project her killing as suicide, police said.
