Police to send drug-addict thieves to de-addiction centres

Will also train them in Skill Development

JAMMU, Feb 11: In a rare cases of its kind, district Jammu Police has noticed that out of some recently arrested youths for thefts in City and outskirts, three were drug-addicts and were indulging in thefts to earn money for taking drugs.
On observing this new trend, SSP Jammu Sridhar Patil has ordered that apart from legal formalities, the thieves will also be sent to Drug De-addiction Centres and after being granted bail they will be trained in the Skill Development Centres so that they don’t fall in wrong society again.
“While working out recent thefts in Jammu City and outskirts, our police teams observed that three youths arrested in connection with theft cases were drug-addicts. In fact, they had indulged in thefts to earn money to procure drugs,” Patil said, adding the Jammu Police decided that these thieves will be treated in the Drug De-addiction Centres to wean them away from the drugs so that after being granted bail or whenever released from the jail after completing their sentence, they don’t fall in bad society again and emerge as reformed youths.
Apart from treating them at Drug De-addiction Centres, Jammu Police has also decided to arrange Skill Development for the youth to train them in different fields which will help them earn their livelihood after completion of their sentence, the SSP Jammu said.
The initiative will go a long way in reforming the youth, he added.
It may be mentioned here that recently, Jammu Police has worked out series of thefts in the City and outskirts and arrested the youth involved in them.
