JAMMU, Aug 16: Various political parties organised functions across the region in connection with the Independence Day and hoisted national flag on Friday.
At PCC headquarters Shahidi Chowk here, the Congress leaders and other workers celebrated the occasion. The national flag was unfurled by Ex-MLA and District president Jammu Urban Om Chopra. Many functionaries from PCC, DCC, BCC, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, INTUC, NSUI and Seva Dal were also present. Several leaders also addressed the gathering and recalled the sacrifices of national heroes.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included former Dy CM Pt Mangat Ram, Ex-MP Janak Raj Gupta, Th Hari Singh, Yogesh Sawhney Ex-MLA, Kanta Bhan, Krishan Lal, S S Shingari, Lalita Sharma and Kirtan Singh.
Dy Chief Minister Tara Chand hoisted national flag at a function held at Main Chowk Bakshi Nagar, Jammu today. CLP leader Mohd Sharief Niaz (MLA) and PCC secretary Anil Chopra and many other Congress activists and people of the area witnessed the programme. Sweets were also distributed on the occasion.
At Samba, Ex-MLA Parkash Sharma and at Vijaypur, Th Hari Singh hoisted national flag as part of Independence Day celebrations.
Congress Seva Dal in separate function organised at party office celebrated I-Day. B S Sambyal hoisted the national flag and recalled the sacrifices of national heroes in freedom struggle.
At Prem Nagar in Jammu Congress leader and general secretary PCC Vikram Malhotra and at Gandhi Chowk Satwari Ex-Corporator Pawan Singh hoisted national flag. At Mendhar in Poonch, Ch Zaffarulla unfurled national flag at main bazaar of the town in presence of large number Congress activists and general public.
DCC Doda celebrated Independence Day at Seri Bazar Bhaderwah. MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta hoisted the national flag. The speakers threw light on the importance of the day and recalled sacrifices of freedom fighters. Sweets were also distributed on this occasion.
Indian National Trade Union Congress, a frontal organization of Congress Party also organised function under the leadership of Shiv Kumar Sharma at Company Bagh. Chief Engineer PHE Sushil Aima and INTUC president jointed hurled the national flag. Shiv Kumar and Mr Aima greeted the gathering on this occasion.
PCC general secretary Maheshwar Singh hoisted national flags at Janipur (Jammu West) and Ploura in separate functions held today. Many people of the area and Congress activists witnessed the programme. Senior Congress leader from Bishnah Shashi Sharma hoisted tri-colour at Kanhal in Bishnah, Ex-Corporator Rajni Bala at Ploura, Ex-Corporator Jai Singh at Sainik Colony while Senior Congress leader S S Shingari at Ambphalla in presence of Youth Congress leader Rocky Dalotra.
State BJP Unit organised a grand function in connection with the Independence Day at party headquarters Kachi Chawni on Friday. State BJP president MP Jugal Kishore Sharma hoisted the national flag in presence of senior leaders- Ashok Khajuria (MLA), national executive member Dr Nirmal Singh and former State president Shamsher Singh Manhas.
The speakers on this occasion recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and threw light on the importance of the day. The sweets were also distributed on the occasion. Prominent among others present on the occasion included- Ashok Koul, Col Uttam Singh, Ramesh Arora, Farooq Khan, Sat Sharma, Sakina Bano, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Bansi lal Bharti, N D Rajwal and Yudhvir Sethi.
Similar functions were also held at City Chowk, Patoli, Jagti Camp, Durga Nagar, Muthi, Marh, Trikuta Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Gangyal, Bahu Fort, Nagrota, New Plot and other areas.
Senior BJP leader Chander Parkash Ganga hoisted national flag at Sarore Adda and Vijaypur Party office. Mandal president Bari Brahmana Dr Puran Parkash and Mandal president Vijaypur, Tarsem Lal were also present. A large number of party workers witnessed the programme. Sweets were distributed among the gathering on the occasion.
District Unit of BJP, Udhampur organised a function at Gole Market where senior leader Pawan Gupta hoisted national flag. Many party activists were present on the occasion. Sweets were also distributed on the occasion.
Provincial unit of J&K National Conference organised a function at Party headquarters Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan, Residency Road here on Friday. Provincial president Devender Singh Rana unfurled the national flag in presence of several senior leaders and other party workers. Mr Rana greeted the gathering on this occasion. Describing secularism as binding force to hold together divergent segments of society, Mr Rana exhorted people to make a resolve for fighting elements animical to the glorious ethos.

PDP celebrated Independence Day in a function held at party office Gandhi Nagar on Friday. State vice president of the party Trilok Singh Bajwa hoisted the national flag in presence of senior and other party leaders and workers. Bajwa also addressed the gathering and recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters.
Prominent among those present included Ved Mahajan, Hussain Ali Wafa, Fallail Singh, Jagjit Singh, Abdul Rashid Malii, R K Bali, Ashok Yogi, Amrit Singh Reen, S P Charak, Kavita Sharma, Ritu Gondi and Daljit Singh.
Senior PDP leader and party candidate from Jammu West Sarv Daman Bhasin hoisted national flag at Sarwal Chowk, Bhagwati Nagar, Bharat Nagar, Talab Tilloo and New Rehari in presence of many party workers and leaders. He also opened election office of the party near Boys Higher Secondary School, Sarwal.
PDP leader and party candidate from Jammu East Bharat Choudhary hoisted tri-colour at Prem Nagar, Kachi Chwani, Pacca Danga and Chowk Chabutra while party candidate from Gandhi Nagar and senior leader Amrik Singh Reen unfurled national flag at Chatha and Bahu Fort. They greeted people on this occasion.
National Panthers Party, celebrated Independence Day in the functions held at party offices Gandhinagar and Kanak Mandi on Friday. Political advisor to the party and spokesman Bansi Lal Sharma hoisted national flag. Many party activists were present on the occasion. Prominent among those included Gagan Pratap Singh, Naresh Singh Chib, Paramjeet Singh, Jagdev Singh, Chander Singh, Hari Singh, Rajesh Gondi and Suresh Verma.
