SRINAGAR, May 5: Former Minister and J&K Pradesh Congress Committee vice president, Abdul Ghani Vakil today said that poll boycott by Hurriyat leadership was not a solution as there is no point in attaching this issue with the Kashmir problem.
Addressing public rally at Nowpora in Sopore today, Mr Vakil said that electing a representative by masses is purely related to a mechanism of redressing their grievances and difficulties. So, there is no point in attaching the process with Kashmir issue. The Congress leader once again urged Hurriyat leaders to review poll boycott call in the larger interest of the people of Kashmir.
Vakil said finally it is Union Government who has to take a final call for every issue of bilateral nature and formation of Government is a ladder to settle every type of issue and impeding the election to few seats does not reflect any prudence. He made it clear that Congress is the only party which possesses experience and skill to settle Kashmir issue and inexperienced BJP has no vision or capability to tackle such vexed issue.
The former Minister said if J&K wants to leave behind bad days and achieve the heights of prosperity and development then it is imperative for the people here to vote and support coalition candidates. He said that every Congressman believes in equality, development and prosperity and never discriminate people on the basis of caste, creed, region or religion.
Urging people to support Nehru family, Vakil said that despite all odds, this family stood for J&K at every point of time, whether it was during natural calamity or political upheavals. He said this is the main reason that our State never confronted problems of poverty and hunger at any stage since accession with India.
Senior party leaders Ghulam Nabi Shah, Haji Mohd Afzal, Master G D Malik and Javed Masoodi also addressed the gathering.
