Poll freebies

Sir,
Refer ‘Freebies not good’ DE July 6. Freebies amount to corruption. Promising or distributing freebies among voters during election time corrupts the mind of people. And this development is not good for a growing democracy. This trend should be arrested immediately in case politicians with a clean image are to be elected to corridors of power.
The politician who do not have much to offer to people often indulge in such gimmicks. People, on their own, should desist from falling in this trap. The  momentarily pleasure derived from such practices will have a long lasting harmful effect on the society and the State.
While it is good that the Supreme Court has taken cognizance of this matter, political parties too should introspect over the matter and not indulge in such practices. We need a clean and accountable system to govern us at this crucial State of nation building.
Yours etc…..
