Pollution problem

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘India leads world in pollution related deaths’ DE Oct 27.
It is a matter of great concern that we the people of India are not taking the issue of pollution seriously, as it should have been. Despite knowing that pollution is great problem for our well-being, we dismiss any suggestion regarding improving the environment we live in. The Supreme Court ban on crackers on the eve of Dewali was flouted by the people and were found bursting crackers and adding volumes of smoke to the already polluted environment. It is not mere air pollution, but also water and noise pollution that is making our  life miserable, and prove to diseases.
As per the survey conducted by the Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health, diseases caused by pollution were responsible for an estimated 9 million premature deaths in 2015.
No Government  can succeed in containing pollution unless people themselves wake up to this reality.
There is urgent need to launch awareness campaigns among people to counter this menace. The earlier, the better it would be for mankind.
Yours etc…
Anil Sethi
