KATHUA, May 2: The sleuths of Excise Department have seized 32 bottles of imported liquor at the entry point of the State being imported clandestinely. On May 1, a vehicle arrived at the toll post for clearance and on physical checking it was found illegally carrying 12 bottles of Glenlivet single Malt Scotch Whisky,12 bottles of Bombay Sapphire gin, four bottles of Merlot Red Wine and four bottles of Danzka Vodka.
The vehicle along with the seized liquor and the driver have been handed over to the Excise and Taxation Officer, Excise Range Kathua for further action under the provision of J & K Excise Act, a handout issued by Excise Department here today said. It said that entry of any type of liquor into State requires proper licence/permission from the Excise Department that was not obtained in the instant case.
Earlier the staff of the Toll Post Lakhanpur detected 200 Kgs of polythene from a car bearing registration no JK02AF-0872 .The polythene was kept hidden beneath the seats of the car. The seized vehicle along with the polythene has been handed over to the Pollution Control Board (PCB) for further action under the relevant law.
