Poonch, Aug 3: In a remarkable display of unity and solidarity, a massive peace committee meeting was convened today at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here.
The meeting presided over by Deputy Commissioner Yasin M. Choudhary and Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch, Vinay Kumar along with Additional District Development Commissioner Poonch, Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik, Additional superintendent of Police, Mushim Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Zaheer Ahmed Kaifi besides other district administration officers witnessed the participation of representatives from various ethnic and religious communities, including Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Shias, as well as senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Civil Society passes resolution to uphold harmony and communal peace which was signed by 40 numbers of prominent citizens and representatives of civil socities.
In the resolution, the Civil Society of Poonch City, together with the representatives of different ethnic groups, expressed their profound pride in the prevailing sense of brotherhood and harmony within the district. They reiterated their unwavering faith in the Indian Constitution and its principles, emphasizing the importance of maintaining communal harmony during the forthcoming discussion of the Pahari ST Bill in the Lok Sabha.
In the meeting, Taj Mir, Adv. Mohd.Zaman, K.D Maini, Adv.Banu Partap, Adv. Sanjay Raina, Adv. Younis Chowhan, President DGPC Narinder Singh, President SDS, Khetarpal, Imam Jama Masjid Molvi Misbhai, President VHP, Nishu Gupta and other prominent citizens and BJP Leaders were present in the meeting.
The members of the Civil Society strongly believe and pledged to uphold the values of ethnic and communal harmony among all communities. They condemned any attempts by individuals, entities, or parties to sow discord between different ethnic and religious groups in Poonch. Furthermore, they expressed their strong opposition to any anti-national acts, activities, or comments and pledged to actively work towards spreading the message of peace and brotherhood throughout the district.
The citizens categorically denounced any form of violence or aggression in the name of peaceful protests. They assured their active involvement in promoting law and order, pacifying their communities, and persuading fellow citizens to observe peaceful conduct.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the arrangements for upcoming festivals, including the Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra, Independence Day, and Raksha Bandhan. He appealed to all residents to uphold peace, enabling the seamless celebration of festivals such as Janmashtami, 15th August, and the Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra, transcending barriers of caste and religion.
The district administration issued a stern warning against any anti-social elements attempting to disrupt peace and communal harmony within the district. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Vinay Kumar, emphasized that strict action would be taken against those who seek to undermine the peace and stability of the region.
