Poonch connected through bailey bridge: Bukhari

JAMMU, Apr 10: Minister for Roads and Buildings, Syed Altaf Bukhari informed the House today said the Government has constructed a Bailey bridge for providing connectivity till Sher-e-Kashmir bridge, which was damaged due to flash-floods in September 2014, is restored fully.
Replying to a Calling Attention Motion of Shehnaz Ganai, the minister said that in view of heavy discharge of water in Poonch river during September 2014, construction of two spans of 35 mtr each (total 70 mtr) of Sher-e-Kashmir motorable bridge have been proposed and tenders for the same stand invited.
He said the work could not be allotted due to stay by the Court. The matter is being pursued in the Court and the work shall be started immediately after the vacation of stay.
The Minister further said that connectivity to the Poonch city has been restored by launching two Bailey bridges on upstream of Sher-e-Kashmir bridge.
He said that the work has also been approved under Prime Minister’s Package for flood-affected infrastructure at a cost of Rs. 900 lakh for which funds have already been released.
