Poonch encounter: Two more militants killed; search on

JAMMU:  The security forces and the Army gunned down two more militants on the third day of ensuing encounter in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“So far, six militants have been eliminated in the gunbattle which broke out on Sunday morning in Allah Peer locality,” a police officer here said, adding that the operation has yet not been called off while the search is on.           He said, “On the third consecutive day, in intermittent exchange of fire between the militants and the security forces,  two more militants, who were pinned in the under construction three-storeyed Mini Secretariat building, were eliminated.”

“Though the firing stopped early morning from the other end, intermittent fire started later,”  the officer said.

Taking the surrounding populated localities into consideration, the security forces with due precautions to prevent the civilians from any harm made a final assault and gunned down two more militants hiding in the target building, said the officer.

So far, six militants have been killed, a cop was martyred and seven others, including two soldiers and a civilian, have sustained bullet injuries in this three-day-long encounter.

An elderly couple held hostage by the militants was freed by the Army commandos where a group of militants was also hiding on late evening on the very first day of ongoing encounter. (AGENCIES)
