Poonch-Jammu road blocked after landslides

POONCH, Sept 14: The traffic on Jammu-Poonch highway was disrupted for about seven hours after landslides at Lasanna in Surankote area early today.
Reports said due to heavy rain in the area for the last more than 15 hours since yesterday, major landslides took place at Lasanna, about 18 kms from here during mid night. Due to land-slides, the movement of traffic came to halt on the road at around 5 am.
No movement of traffic could take place for over seven hours on this highway as nearly 400 mt road stretch had been affected with the falling of big bounders on this mountainous road. Nearly 400 to 500 vehicles remained stranded on both sides of this road up to 12 noon. The Traffic Police authorities also diverted some vehicles via Poonch-Krishnaghati-BG road which is nearly 60 km additional journey.
The GREF men of Project Sampark deployed nearly 50 men, two dozers and two JCBs to clear the road and the traffic could be restored around mid day. It took nearly an hour to clear the stranded vehicles to the local police and Traffic police authorities. BRO officials, Executive Engineer R&B, SHO Surankote S S Slathia were supervising the operation.
