POONCH, Dec 16: Over 1600 people participated in ‘Poonch Marathon’ organized by Poonch Police to spread message of communal harmony and awareness against drugs menace.
The marathon was first of its kind of marathon in Poonch.
The marathon had two segments and saw a massive turnout as people ran to lend their support and to show solidarity in the fight against drugs and demonstrated their support for communal harmony.
More than 1600 athletics including students from different high secondary schools, college, sports bodies, police personnel, para-military personnel, Poonch Bar association, media persons and large number of locals joined the Run.
Earlier, the marathon was flagged off from khaneter by Deputy Commissioner Poonch Haroon Malik in the wee hours, on this occasion ACR Poonch Mohd Ashraf, ASP Poonch Masroor Mir, DySP Mohan Sharma, DySP Rafi Giri, DySP Saleem Bhatt, DySP Sagar Singh were also present. Marathon after passing through various routes culminated at Sports stadium poonch.
Addressing the participants at sports stadium poonch DC appreciated SSP Poonch J.S Johar and his team for organizing the event in a befitting manner and congratulated the winners.He also encouraged the youths to channelize their energy in the right direction and keep away from the evils of the society.
The participants were presented T-shirts sponsored by Chadda Traders Poonch .
