Poonchi urges Govt for upliftment of Gujjar-Bakarwal tribe

POONCH, July 18: Prominent Gujjar leader, Shamsher Hakla Poonchi urged the Government to take concrete steps for welfare and upliftment of Gujjar-Bakarwal tribe in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Gujjar-Bakarwal tribe is belonging to Islam religion has its habitation in 20districts of J&K and most of them are residing in hilly, far-flung and mountainous areas near forests and near the Indian-Pakistan border and have been facing lot of problems in term of road communication, electricity, water supply schemes, medical facilities and even educational facilities,” he narrated.
He demanded that the Govt should open boarding schools in all the districts of J&K on the pattern of Navodaya Vidyalaya for both boy and girl students of these communities, so that the students get the secondary education without any obstacles.
He also demanded that the Gojri language should include in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution along with special package for the permanent settlement of the tribe.
