The most dismal performance of our athletes in Rio Olympics has dashed the hopes of the sports fans of our country into the ground. The country with 1.3 billion people could not produce promising athletes, except two young girls who bagged one silver and one bronze medal, otherwise the country sports stars had to return empty handed.
The great athletes who bagged gold medals in various disciplines in earlier Olympics games attribute this poor performance due to the wrong selection of sportsmen by the sports authority of India and Union Sports Ministry. Our country has no dearth of ace and promising sportsmen. Had there been fair selection our country would not return without any gold medal. The large contingent of 118 sportsmen was selected simply by granting favour to undeserving athletes resulting in this debacle.
In future fair selection of ace and deserving athletes should be made in Tokyo Olympic -2020 so that poor performance is not repeated.
