Poppy destruction campaign concludes

SRINAGAR, May 18: Three day poppy destruction campaigns launched by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Zonal Unit Jammu in association with J&K State Excise Department and district Police concluded today in Kulgam and Anantnag districts.
During the campaign, a Satellite Survey was conducted by the Advanced Data Processing Research Institute (ADRIN), Hyderabad, followed by physical field survey by the team of NCB and ADRIN.
During the campaign, Central and State Agencies visited 28 numbers of remote villages in Kulgam and Anantnag districts and destroyed two acres area of illicit poppy cultivation.
Villagers were also educated about the menace of drug abuse and its prevalent impact on the society, especially on new generation. They were also requested to lend their support for making a healthy and drug free society.
KS Chauhan, Zonal Director apprised that such programmes will be launched in north Kashmir as well. He said that NCB will also conduct awareness programmes on the drug abuse in various schools and colleges of Kashmir valley shortly in association with NGOs and State Agencies.
