NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Giriraj Singh here on Saturday said if the country is to be categorised as a developed nation then a strict population control law needed which applies equally to all people and religions.
The comments from the Minister came on World Population Day, celebrated worldwide on Saturday. On the occasion, Mr Singh also posted a video on his Twitter handle.
He said that sometimes population is a necessity and sometimes it becomes a liability.
Referring to China, he said that ”behind its development today is the Population Control Act brought there in 1979. If China did not have this law, then there would have been a further increase of 60 crore in its population today”. (AGENCIES)
