Sir,
World population may cross nine billion by 2050. According to a United Nations report based on ‘Revision of the official United Nations Population Estimates and Projections’, less developed countries would witness most of the increase. India would have the fastest growing population. But, 46 countries may lose population, including Germany Italy, Japan, South Korea, countries in former Soviet Union and some small island nations. Isn’t this information frightening. Being citizens of this country we all have a responsibility to put efforts in making our country a better one. Educating the ignorants about the perils which increase in population creates can be a little effort in this direction.

Sir,
Increase in our population has invoked PM’s concern in his speech delivered on 15th August 2019 at Red Fort on the 73th Independence Day. India’s population has risen to 134 crores and this increase is 4 times since 1947 and it is right that PM of India expressed his feelings on this subject. According to available reports India will be number one populated country by 2027 in the world leaving China behind. It will be challenge for India to accommodate this huge population. The PM is correct to speak that time has come to face the challenge. India is already facing water shortage, pollution and poverty. Small family system will improve the fate of our poor. People adopting small families really contribute in the nation building as said by the PM. With rising graph of population there is no corresponding increase in the production of consuming items that paves the way for inflation. Unemployment shows upward trend day in and day out due to continuous rise in our population. If we want to make India super power the need of the hour is to structure National Population Policy in the country and in this context two child norm has been in practice since times past in the country. It needs vigorous exercise in motivating the people in the birth control. Govt has provided many incentives for those who go for sterlisation but much more is still needed to be done in this matter. Everybody should cooperate in controlling the population and those who try to exploit the innocent people in the name of caste, creed and sex for their personal ends need to be exposed. Ham doo, Hamara doo slogan has to be widely publicized.
