Porters Association holds protest

UDHAMPUR, Mar 14: Porters Association held a protest to highlight their long pending demand of permanent engagement in Government and private departments as assured by the then authorities after the victory in Kargil war during 1999-2002.
Hundreds of protestors assembled at Indira Chowk and marched towards DC Office in the shape of rally.
Addressing the gathering, social worker Ajaz Sumberiya claimed that the demand of Porter Association for permanent engagement is genuine keeping in view their service for the sake of motherland in the time of need along with the Army troops in the most difficult terrain in Kargil area.
They played a vital role in the successful Kargil war and deserve permanent engagement in lieu of their rendered service in time of need for which they are waiting for the past 15 years, he added.
He appealed to the Central Government to deliver justice to the hundreds of the porters and added that the struggle will be continued till logical end.
Additional District Commissioner Vikash Sharma and Gourav Mahajan, DySP Headquarters Udhampur assured the Association that they will take up their demand with Divisional Commissioner for redressal.
Among others present were Ramesh Kumar, Rajinder Kumar, Kaka Ram, Raghuvir Singh, Raj Kumar, Goutam Kumar, Mohinder Kumar, etc.
