JAMMU: Panic gripped border villages after the Indian Air Force carried out air strikes across the Line Of Control while Pakistan heavily shelled the forward Border Outposts on the LoC in Poonch district.
Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement by firing unprovoked in Poonch sector along the LoC, official sources said here.
They said, “Pakistan heavily fired small arms and mortars early morning and violated the ceasefire.”
However, Indian Army was effectively retaliating to the cross-border firing.
Meanwhile, the locals in Poonch claimed that during wee hours, voice of aircraft was heard followed by bombardment.
According to the reports, the residents living close to the the Balakote sector, which is situated close to the fence in Poonch sector of the state, were shifted to safer locations a couple of days back.
Another Balakote area is located in Pakistan close to the Chakothi and Muzaffarabad where terror camps of JeM, LeT and HuM were reportedly destroyed.
Although there is no confirmation from the Ministry of Defence about air strike but the locals in Poonch claimed that they heard aircraft sounds during wee hours sensing that it might be a routine exercise.
The Air Bases in Jammu, Udhampur, Rajouri have been put on high alert while all ranked officers have been told to remain on alert.
