SRINAGAR, May 27: The five-days Srinagar Post Office Fest-2013 held in association with Srinagar Municipal Corporation “Clean Srinagar – Green Srinagar” concluded here with award distribution ceremony.
On the occasion, Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora was the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Jora highlighted the role of the Post Office in delivering the message in far flung areas and added that despite era of internet and courier, the postal services have great relevance in the present system. He said that during the last two years, the post offices of the State have started activity and delivery system of the posts offices have taken a new twist by providing immediate and prompt postal services to the common people especially in the remote and far flung areas.
Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle, John Samuel, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, G.N Qasba, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nazim Zia, Director Postal Services, J&K, Jagdeep Gupta, ACAO, J&K Showkat Ahmed Parry and other senior officers of Postal Department and SMC were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Chief Postmaster General highlighted the role of Postal Department in delivering prompt postal services to the common people and added that J&K has the highest percentage of distribution of postal services in the country. He said that the Postal Department in last couple of years have not only increased its strength by opening a number of new posts offices, but also held various functions for the promotion for tourism, strengthen the people socially, economically and culturally.
Mr. Qasba said that Post Office Fest-2013 was a joint venture of Department of Posts and Srinagar Municipal Corporation aimed at creating awareness amongst the people about keeping Srinagar city clean and green.
Later, Mr Jora awarded the children who participated in a number of functions including letter writing completion, stamp design competition, debate competition and quiz competition.
