JAMMU, Feb 28: Ministry of External Affairs has approved setting up of a Passport Seva Kendra at Rajouri. The Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) will be inaugurated on March 2. In Jammu division, it will be the third POPSK after Udhampur and Kathua.
50 appointments per day have been released and it will be considered for increase depending upon the surge in demand for passports. Now applicants would be able to submit their applications and complete the documentary formalities at the Passport Seva Kendra.
However, the PSK will be operationalised from March 2 but now applicants from Rajouri district can apply and book appointment slot in advance. The facility of having their applications processed at the POPSK will be available only from March 2. Applicants from nearby areas of Poonch districts will also be able to avail the services.
Stating this, Regional Passport Officer, Jammu, NK Shil has further stated that this new POPSK will function as an extended counter of the Regional Passport Office Jammu. As usual this Passport Seva Kendra will remain open for 5 days in a week except Saturday, Sunday and will remain closed holidays.
He added that it will immensely benefit around 14 lakh citizens of Rajouri including its said two adjacent districts especially people hailing from remote far flung areas. It will reduce the distance required to travel by an applicant to get a passport. Now, they don’t have to travel all the way to Jammu to obtain passport related services, Shil said.
“It will cut down the waiting period in the appointment cycle and speed up processing of applications and delivery of passports. It will save time, energy and money. Now they can get their Passport services at their door step Rajouri in an easy, convenient, reliable, transparent, accountable and comfortable atmosphere”, he informed.
