Poultry farmers call on DC

Excelsior Correspondent
KATHUA, Aug 1: Poultry farmers of district Kathua today called on Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Shahid Iqbal and expressed their concern over the issuance of order No 91-ASH on July 24 by State Government under which the Contract Poultry farming was suspended till further orders.
The delegation informed the DC that by this order the Government has brought the poor farmers engaged in the small business of poultry farm not only on roads but an attempt has been made to put them on starvation.
The delegation informed the DC that the poor poultry farmers were not allowed to grow by the monopoly of private dealers and local traders. But the contract farming has created a ray of hope among them as with zero investment the poultry farmers can run their business effectively and maintain their families and meet their day to day needs.
They said through broiler agreements they were assured by the other contracting party that entire financial support will be on their part and they will receive broiler chicks, feed, medicine, technical know how and periodical check up, a team of experts from time to time.
But by giving a wrong impression to the Government about contract farming by big traders and dealers, the State Government without appreciating the ground realities and benefits as available to the poor farmers the Government has issued the order for cancellation of contract farming hitting the poor farmers worst.
The delegation demanded that the order issued on July 24 be withdrawn keeping in view the concern of poor poultry farmers of the State.
