REASI, Mar 20: Demanding establishment of newly sanctioned Government Degree College at a nearby location, the entire Pouni town today observed a complete bandh.
All shops and business establishment remained close while people held a massive demonstration to register their protest against purported selection of site near Domel for construction of the newly sanctioned Government Degree College.
The protesting people raised slogans in support of their demand and threatened indefinite strike if the Government does not address their concern. They alleged that the then Tehsildar Pouni intentionally misplaced the file recommending establishment of newly established Degree College at Pouni.
According to the locals, who were protesting in front of the office of Tehsildar Pouni, two locations, one at Nila Dub Byulian and other at Kota Jharh Druni were shortlisted by the Tehsil administration for the new college. However, the name of Nila Dub Byulian was finalized and the foundation stone was laid there as the name of Kota Kharh Druni was not forwarded to the office of Deputy Commissioner Reasi.
The protesting people alleged that the Tehsildar Pouni was responsible for not forwarding the name of Kota Jhar and he intentionally misplaced the file in this regard. They were also demanding a probe into the matter.
The protesters were pacified by Tehsildar Pouni who assured their meeting with Deputy Commissioner Reasi tomorrow.
Even as a complete shut down was observed, the vehicle carrying Shiv Khori pilgrims were allowed to ply and there was no report of any untoward incident during the bandh.
