Power crisis in Jammu

Power crisis in Jammu has reached a critical stage. Though power cuts during hot summer are known to people of Jammu but the situation this time is unprecedented. Protests by people in different parts of the region and Jammu city are of no effect because the authorities are dead to the woes of the people. Tall claims are made that Power Department is responsive to the complaints of the people whenever their attention is called through a telephone call. Even the telephone numbers of various officers were also announced. But seldom does any officer respond to a call or complaint.  Power Department is directly under the control of the Chief Minister and therefore, we urge him for direct intervention  improve the plight of Jammu people in this sweltering heat wave. Some remedial measures are required. Areas which are fully metered find no concession as was formally announced by the PDD. Recurrent cuts for long hours have made life in Jammu virtual hell. PDD has become a law unto itself because it does not at all respond to the demands and protests of the people. Even the  Housing Minister is reported to have written to the Chief Minister about critical power situation in the city and other parts of Jammu. But there is no response whatsoever form official quarters of PDD. The Sphinx-like mood of the PDD does not augur well for the Government. This has become a very critical issue and the Government should immediately consider various measures that would help in ameliorating the power woes of the population in the city. PDD send power bills to the consumers regularly and is also quick to take punitive actions in cases of violation of rules by the consumers, yet the department thinks it is legitimate for it to remain unresponsive to the complaints of the consumers.
