Power engineers avail protest leave, hold demonstration

JAMMU, June 5: Taking a recourse to agitational path for settlement of their genuine and long pending demands and against the State Government’s apathy towards them, graduate electrical engineers owing allegiance to J&K Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (J&K EEGA) held a demonstration at Gladni Complex.
Raising slogans in support of their demands, the protesters warned to intensify agitation in case the same were not settled immediately. They accused the Government of total apathy towards the power engineers in the State.
Addressing the demonstrators, president of the Association expressed his disappointment against the non fulfillment of genuine demands of the electrical engineers which were brought in the notice of the Government from time to time.
He said nothing was done in this regard till date except the hollow assurances. This has forced the fraternity to resort to peaceful demonstration and availing of one day protest leave.
The demonstrators, while expressing their anger over the sufferings of PDD engineers due to delaying tactics of Government in their regularization at all levels, posting of mechanical engineer as Executive Engineer Electrical, in Central Workshop Division Jammu, promotion of diploma holder JEs as AEs in excess of their sanctioned quota and reviewing of functioning of HRM Wing of PDD termed it as outcome of Government’s callousness.
The protesters demanded inclusion of names of senior AMIE Degree holders in the seniority list at the appropriate place as their juniors have already been placed in the said list, issuance of promotion orders along with postings only, framing of clear cut policy for the officers deputed to other departments and bringing them back to PDD, implementation of transfer policy in letter and spirit and regularization of contractual engineers as and when they complete the stipulated period of seven years.
They also demanded filling up of vacant posts at all levels at the earliest, enhancement of fixed TA to junior engineers, registration of FIR, in case of electrical accidents against the department and not against the officers and officials and removal of pay anomaly where senior degree engineers are getting less salary as compared to their juniors.
Later talking to media persons president of the Association said the degree engineers in PDD will get justice only after fulfillment of the demands highlighted by them.
He also made an appeal to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to direct the concerned to provide speedy resolution of the problems being faced by electrical engineers.
