Power Grid restores 400 KV line using IAF choppers

JAMMU, Feb 6: Displaying exemplary courage, the engineers and other technical staff of the Power Grid Corporation of India with the help of Indian Air Force choppers managed to restore 400 KV Kishenpur-Wagoora transmission line and power supply to majority of the areas in Kashmir valley.
A spokesman from Power Grid said that continous rain and snowfall on February 4 and 5, 2013 that threw normal life out of gear in the State, it had its impact on 400 KV transmission line as well at higher reaches of Pir Panchal. Its Circuit-I, had earlier been affected on January 20 which the Power Grid had restored in the shortest possible time with the support of State Administration and Air Force.
After massive snowfall and break down in the line due to massive snowfall, the Power Grid team swung into action and approached the State Government and IAF to help them to reach snow clad mountains of Pir Panchal for restoration work. The team of experienced engineers headed by Arshed Khan Chief Manager and Mohd Farooq Manager (OS), was dropped by the IAF choppers at the desired locations on the mountains. The team under most hostile conditions and velocity winds rectified the faults and restored power supply to the Valley.
This transmission line was charged at around 3.20 pm today and nearly 500 MW of electricity was made available to the people of Kashmir. The entire operation was being monitored by General Manager (O&M) R K Suri. J P Singh, Executive Director, Power Grid Northern Region-II congratulated the team for its extra-ordinary work. He also extended gratitude to the IAF and the State Administration for support.
