Dr Daisy Parihar
The most beautiful creation of God is WOMEN.
When she is in the field of science or art,
She gives her best with dedication, and play her part.
She is breaking boundaries and reaching high,
With her strength and aspiration, she is touching the sky.

When we talk about women power, her contribution in many fields of science and technology, it is unfortunate that its application can vary among individuals and cultures. There is still work to do to ensure universal respect for women’s right and equality.

The significance of the above lines is that the tradition of worshipping girls during Navratri is a cultural practice. It symbolizes the divine feminine energy and promotes the idea of respecting and honouring women. But it’s unfortunate that some part of India struggled with practice known as female foeticide.
It presents a star contradiction to these values. It is a deeply disturbing issue that prevails in certain parts of India. The contradiction between worshipping girls during Navratri and the prevalence of female foeticide highlights the complex nature of society. There are various reasons which are responsible for this heinous crime. Many families prefer boys, it may be due to cultural norms. This preference leads to a skewed gender ratio and result in harmful consequences. One of the reasons is which I feel is sometimes, few beggars become choosers and they ask for dowry. This dowry system places a financial burden on the bride’s family. So many families feel that raising a girl child is a costly affair. Similarly, if we talk about property, and you can see many people don’t let to inherent their property to a girl. My question is why can’t a girl child inherit and manage family property and assets? Why does it have to be inherited to boys only? The idea that women are burdens is a baseless myth. Women play vital roles in families and economies worldwide. The global increase in women’s participation in fields dominated by men, such as science, technology and engineering showcase their capability and determination. One of the examples of women dedication and intelligence can be admired in the recent space mission of India “Chandrayaan-3”.
Behind this mission, women scientists are involved in its planning and execution, it demonstrated their significant contribution to ISRO. Approximately, 54 engineers and scientists have been directly involved in the Chandrayaan-3 mission. These women hold crucial positions and they have been working tirelessly to assure the success of the mission. Never underestimate a power of a woman, therefore we call her “Durga”. Durga refers to a goddess who is powerful riding a lion.
A warrior goddess who symbolises strength and courage. Women has always been strong and brave and just like Durga; women use their strength to overcome problems. When women are empowered, societies progress. Now, these days we have seen many high-tech or old age homes. But what was the need of these homes? This is a bitter question. Once I read a quote somewhere that “when the son forgets to provide a room, a suitable living arrangement for his parents. He considers placing them in an old age home.”. These old people have different definitions of loneliness, sadness or a sense of loss due to being away from their family home. But if you compare daughters, they are more likely to take care of their parents and to provide support even after the marriage. So, it is a duty of parents to put moral values in their children. Teaching boys to respect girls is not just a matter of courtesy, it is a step towards building a society in which there is equality and understanding.
At last, when we teach boys to respect women, we should not forget that encouraging women to respect other women is important to create a healthy society. When women treat each other with kindness, it helps everyone grow. When they support each other, they become stronger together. They should try to celebrate each other’s success and help each other. It’s a smart way to make the world better. When women take a stand against female foeticide, they play a powerful role in fighting for the rights of their own gender. By saying ‘no’ to this practice, women give a message that every life is valuable.
O Mother, have faith in me,
I too can fly,
with the wings of courage,
I can touch the sky.
