Power projects’ transfer important agenda: Govt

Srinagar, June 18: Government today said the transfer of power projects is an important part of the developmental agenda of the People’s Democratic Party-Bhartiya Janata Party Coalition Government and it is committed to make J&K a fiscally autonomous State.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone in Lower House, Minister Incharge Power stated that  in order to address the real source of J&K fiscal problem and to pave the way for making J&K a fiscally autonomous State, the Government will work with the Union Government to explore modalities for transfer of Dulhasti and Uri hydro power projects to J&K as suggested by the Rangarajan committee report and the Round table reports, secure a share in the profit of NHPC emanating from J&K waters to the state government, revise all royalty agreements, allot a dedicated coal mine in Madhya Pradesh to J&K with coal reserves of not less than 150 MMT for setting up a pit head thermal plant with equity support from Government of India, restructure Chenab Valley Power Project and ensure a share in one of the six ultra mega thermal power projects.
The Minister further stated that on March 16, 2015, the Deputy Chief Minister and the Finance Minister met the Union Power Minister and impressed upon the Union Government the need for transfer of Dul Hasti and Uri from NHPC to State among other important issues of power sector.
