Power reforms

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Govt releases Rs 360 Cr for power project as PM’s Dev Plan set rolling ‘DE Aug 4.
The power sector in the State is in a shambles. The Power Development Department (PDD) is under sharp criticism for not improving power supply in the State. The industry is facing the brunt of power shortage. Domestic power supply is so erratic that every house-hold has a grievance against the PDD. During rainy days, power supply remains cut off for days together, which in turn affects water supply too. No sector remains untouched when electricity goes off.
The Power Development Department is suffering huge losses on account of power pilferage either due to transmission and distribution or stealing by people. No sincere effort has been made to arrest this deteriorating situation. Every one in the State want power without paying. As a result, the Industrial sector has become a casuality in the State. With the release of Rs 360 Cr for power project, the power generation capacity of the State would increase, but not enough to meet the demand of the State.
There is urgent need to initiate power reforms on urgent basis to augment power supply in the area.
Yours etc….
