UDHAMPUR, June 24: Peeved over the power and water crisis besides the neglect of poor and marginalized sections of society, several hundreds of NPP activists led by Harsh Dev Singh, former Minister and NPP leader, took out a procession, here today.
The protest march started from MH Morh and culminated at DC Office Udhampur. Raising slogans against the Government, the processionists passed through many bazaars of the city and submitted memorandums to district officers of Power Deptt, Jal Shakti Deptt, Social Welfare Deptt, Education Deptt, PMGSY Deptt and finally to DC Udhampur.
Launching a scathing attack on the Government for its gross failure in providing even the basic amenities, he said that frequent and unscheduled power cuts, huge voltage fluctuations, irregular supply of water besides polluted and contaminated water supplied had created an alarming situation with people boiling with rage against the criminal apathy of helmsmen.
Harsh Dev Singh regretted that the scheduled and unscheduled power cuts during scorching summer with soaring humidity had thrown life out of gear in both urban and rural areas with clamoring and grievances of people going un-heard and unaddressed.
Drawing the attention of the DC Udhampur towards the major concerns of the people, Singh said that sanitation of the Udhampur town was worst with heaps of garbage having created most unhygienic conditions and none to respond to public outcries. He said that majority of PMGSY roads in rural areas were in shambles and the people had been deprived of due compensation for their lands and structures. “Pensions to old aged, physically challenged and widows have not been paid by social welfare deptt for several months. BPL ration cards of several eligible persons have been cancelled in various villages. The MGNREGA payments to workmen are pending in majority of Panchayats for years. The schools and health centres in remote villages are without staff. And despite all round chaos, there are no takers for shrill cries of people for justice,” said Singh.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included Manju Singh, Dina Nath- BDC Chairman Majalta, Ashri Devi -DDC Dudu Basantgarh; Des Raj- BDC Chairman Ramnagar, Dharam Singh- Sarpanch, Pawan Sharma Sarpanch, Neelam Kumari- BDC Chairperson Parli Dhar, Balbir Singh Ankit Sanson , Ram Pal Bhagat and Raj Kumar Sharma.
