UDHAMPUR, Nov 22: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has donated five garbage collection vehicles and one Truenat machine for TB testing to the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Udhampur as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
The handover took place at a ceremony where Shafat Ahmad Wani, Senior General Manager, Northern Region-II, POWERGRID, presented the items to Saloni Rai, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Dr Mrityunjay, Principal of GMC Udhampur, Rajinder Kumar Digra, CEO of the Municipal Council, and senior officials from POWERGRID and the District Administration.
As per a statement, the total value of the donated equipment is approximately Rs 55 lakh.
It said that the garbage collection vehicles will help improve waste management in Udhampur, benefiting its population of over five lakh people while the Truenat machine, used for tuberculosis (TB) testing, will play a crucial role in the district’s efforts to combat TB, contributing to the government’s goal of a TB-free India under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
“This initiative reflects POWERGRID’s commitment to supporting the development of infrastructure, particularly in the areas of sanitation and health, through its CSR efforts,” a POWERGRID official said.
“The company has long focused on improving waste management and medical facilities in rural and urban regions across the country,” he added.
POWERGRID, with its headquarters in Jammu, is engaged in the transmission of electricity across India.
It manages over 178,000 km of transmission lines and 280 substations, contributing to the country’s power infrastructure.
Through CSR initiatives, POWERGRID has been making a positive impact on communities by enhancing public health and environmental well-being.
