JAMMU, Nov 16: Dr R T Durai Prabhakaran, Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu, has been awarded a research fund of Rs 2.38 crores by the Indian Government’s Textile Ministry in New Delhi.
The research project, spanning three years and boasting a total budget of Rs 2.87 crores, is a collaborative effort with IIT Madras, AIIMS Rishikesh, and IIPO Chennai, alongside two esteemed industrial partners-NANOCOMPS Pune, and PCI Limited, New Delhi.
Under the auspices of the Special Call of Textile Ministry, the industrial partner NANOCOMPS, Pune, is contributing Rs 10 lakhs in financial support to the IIT Madras project partner.
This joint venture aims to address a critical need in the field of prosthetics through the project titled “Low-cost Prosthetics Design and Fabrication using Advanced Textile and Composites Technology.” The overarching objective is to leverage advanced design and kinematic mechanisms to create low-cost and lightweight composite prosthetics. The project will harness textile fiber and sensor technologies to develop highly beneficial below-knee prosthetics suitable for both the general public and military personnel.
