JAMMU, June 10:  The pre-monsoon showers today brought some respite from the scorching heat in Jammu and its surrounding areas this afternoon.
It was a bright sunny day today but late in the afternoon dust storm followed by heavy rainfall brought relief to the people from hot weather conditions. Some areas in Jammu’s north west witnessed mild hail-storm. Children were seen even enjoying the rain in the city areas. It has brought big relief to the people from long hot weather spell in Jammu. The long power curtailment had already made the life of people more miserable.
Director Met Deptt Srinagar,  Dr Sonam Lotus told the Excelsior that these were pre-monsoon showers and till the end of this month, showers will occur frequently after the temperature rises.
” This rain in Jammu areas had nothing to do with the western disturbances.
It was purely pre-monsoon rain. The monsoon may hit Jammu and Kashmir State in first week of July,” Dr Lotus maintained.
A Met official said that the winter capital of Jammu witnessed maximum 39.2 degree  Celsius temperature while since May end, the mercury fluctuated between 39.8 degrees to 43 degree Celsius. He said that during next 24 hours the weather will remain almost clear but there will be moderate rain at isolated places of Jammu region.
With the rain in Jammu, there has been a drop of nearly 4 to 5 degrees Celsius temperature this evening. Children enjoyed the rain while water-logging at several places affected the smooth movement of vehicles here.
